Codamotion Analysis Software with Research Package

gait ed img

Codamotion analysis software is designed from scratch with the Movement Analysis user in mind. It has been built to take advantage of the unique features of the Codamotion Active Marker system, whilst giving the flexibility to integrate data from other devices with optional force platform support and general analogue/EMG support.

With a Codamotion system all markers are automatically identified in the hardware, so the task of acquiring correctly labelled data is extremely simple. Tell the software which markers you wish to acquire (e.g. Markers 1 to 56), hit the Acquire button, and results appear immediately. There is no complex character-rigging process needed.

Real-time displays allow viewing of stick figures and text to verify marker locations before any acquisition is done. Extensive diagnostic features allow the user to maximise the capture volume in any given location.

Graphs and stick figures can be created to suit any application. Velocities and accelerations are calculated automatically. Angle calculations can be configured and plotted.

Once a user has created a set of acquisition options which are appropriate for a particular project, they can be saved as a Setup. The setup can be recalled at any time to acquire or analyse more data using the same protocol. This makes it very quick to switch from task to task if the system is in demand for many different projects.

Gait Analysis Package

An extension to the main Codamotion Analysis package, the gait package provides automatic calculation of joint Euler angles, moments and powers as used in leading clinical laboratories and research labs. A report-generation package gives printed reports in a standard form.

The package is provided in combination with the Codamotion Gait Wand Set which aids accurate angle measurement according to an accepted clinical protocol.

General Analogue/EMG Support

Signals from EMG systems or other analogue devices may be recorded simultaneously with data from the Codamotion system. This module is provided as an extra extension to the Codamotion Analysis software. Simply check the box to acquire analogue signals, and the signals will appear. This module also gives support for certain EMG systems using a digital interface such as WiFi.

devicesSupported devices:
  • Any analogue device connected to the Codamotion Active Hub (including Motion Lab Systems EMG and other EMG manufacturers)
  • Noraxon Telemyo EMG via wireless digital link (WiFi)
Force platform support

This software extension to the Codamotion Analysis software supports acquisition of an unlimited number of force platforms via Analogue and/or digital inputs. Centre of pressure calculations are done automatically at acquisition. Force vectors can be overlaid on stick figure views.

When using force platforms with piezo-electric transducers, a Codamotion Active Hub can communicate with the force platform amplifier to reset automatically at the beginning of each acquisition, and to set dynamic ranges. This step is not necessary for strain-gauge force platforms.

  • AMTI
  • Bertec
  • Kistler

A configuration file is used to specify the type of force platform.

Codamotion SDK

For engineers who want real-time hands-on access to Codamotion data, this can be achieved using the Codamotion Software Development Kit (SDK). This is ideal for real-time motor control experiments, control of virtual reality and augmented reality equipment, and many more real-time control tasks.

code picThe Codamotion SDK allows a programmer to have complete access to the 3D measurement capabilities allows data can be streamed over a network (TCP/IP) link. C-language clients are provided for use in Windows and linux, together with a cross-platform java client.

Codamotion Data Toolbox for Matlab (CDTM)

Many researchers wish to develop their own algorithms and tools for analysis in the popular MATLAB software. Codamotion has created tools to help do this a movement data toolbox for matlab which supports import/export in many popular movement file formats. These include MDF, C3D, ASCII (TXT), and a particular XML format.

Visual3D

gait 3dTo give total flexibility in 3D biomechanical modelling, Codamotion have teamed up with C-motion Inc. to provide the Visual3D software fully integrated with the Codamotion system.

C-motion Visual3D is particularly suited to creating biomechanical models based upon clusters of markers, so that each cluster is measured in 6-degrees-of-freedom (6DOF).

Visualisation of the skeleton and muscles are provided.

Optional real-time modules allow extensive real-time monitoring and visualistion.
